As a psychotherapist in general private practice for many years, it was only recently, late in life, that I confirmed in myself an Asperger’s diagnosis. Already being an experienced practitioner, I now specialize in psychotherapy for adult males, age 40 and over, with Asperger’s Syndrome (AS). My approach to the wide variety of issues they face is informed not only by my professional standpoint, but also by my own inner, personal struggle.
For a man over 40 with a suspected or actual diagnosis of AS, every aspect of his life may seem to need re-evaluation. An older, new-found Aspie struggles in unknown territory, likely alienated from his past, and often totally uncertain about his present or future life. At this point, therapeutic assistance offers him an opportunity for greater understanding and self-acceptance, knowing he is not alone in his self-exploration.

“There is a wide variety of professionals who provide psychotherapy including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, mental health counselors, or marriage and family therapists. Genuine understanding of Asperger Syndrome may be more important than any particular degree, and finding the right match of knowledge, approach, and authenticity is the key to effective treatment.”
