You are taking a courageous step in seeking a therapist and I support you in this courage. Perhaps you are at a crossroads or turning point in your life and want to explore what has brought you here and where this stage may lead. I am ready to listen and support you.
Perhaps my background and experience will be compatible with what you feel you need: I have practiced as a person-centered, relational, humanistic, psychodynamic psychotherapist for 35 years. I have worked with individuals and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, alcohol addiction and dependence, difficult childhood experiences, trauma and post-traumatic stress reactions, relationship issues, sexual identity, life cycle changes and transitions, and the search for a strong sense of self.
If you are a couple seeking help, our time together will involve supporting you to understand each other more fully, to balance the desire for emotional intimacy with the need for individual identity, and to negotiate the boundaries between closeness and distance. Whatever issues are important in your relationship, I am ready to explore these with you in safe, non-judgemental conversations.
In addition, I have experience in long-term emotional recovery for adult victims of domestic violence and/or childhood abuse; my work over the years has also involved supporting individuals who want to explore their use of alcohol and other drugs, as well as family and friends coping with alcohol or drug dependence in someone close to them.
I value our initial meeting as an opportunity to begin to know you and understand what you may need from our conversations. Hopefully we will establish a supportive collaboration as we think together about whatever you have on your mind and where you would like the therapy to lead.
I am available for a free phone consultation in advance of a first meeting. My fee is on a sliding scale from $75.00 to $150.00 per 1-hour session. It is not necessary to have insurance as I am prepared to work with you to arrange an affordable fee. However, I do accept GHI, EmblemHealth, Medicare, Value Options, and National Health Administrators. I also qualify as an out-of-network provider if your insurance covers psychotherapy.
If you feel my background might match what you need, I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully talking further.
