About HelpPRO

The Mission

HelpNet, Inc. was founded in March 1995 "to advance human services through technology". HelpPRO was developed to connect people to the best matching mental health resources: professionals, community and human service organizations. (Click here to view our brochure.)

The Service

The HelpPRO search is the most comprehensive on the Web. It is robust, fast and easy to use. The search process is user-driven, i.e., specifically designed for people who need to find mental health provider information quickly and easily. HelpPRO reduces the time, energy, and frustration that is often spent searching for the right therapist. Available 24 hours a day, it is also a valuable tool to quickly find resources in a crisis. Click here to listen to our radio ad.

Providers find the listing tool easy and intuitive. Choosing from over 850 practice-related items, therapists and organizations can showcase their services and areas of expertise by selecting from simple menu driven lists. The scope and depth of practice information is unparalleled.

While other "therapist finders" charge providers high monthly fees to list, HelpPRO does not employ this "yellow pages" model. The modest annual listing fee covers administrative costs of database development and maintenance. Organizations are charged on a sliding scale depending on the number of staff, and, small, non-profit organizations that cannot afford the fee, list free of charge. Because fees are minimal, the HelpPRO database is larger and more inclusive than others.

Visitors to HelpPRO.com access the most comprehensive information about private practitioners as well as community resources such as support groups, prevention programs, residential schools, hospitals, state agencies, and outpatient treatment centers.

Business Model

HelpNet seeks to develop collaborative relationships with professional mental health associations, health care and consumer advocacy organizations. Members of these organizations benefit from referrals of prospective clients or by receiving high quality current referral information.

HelpPRO is collaborating with the National Association of Social Workers to become the premier national source of information about clinical social workers.

Collaboration with the National Association of Social Workers
For ten years HelpPRO has been primarily a Massachusetts service. In January 2005 that changed. As a result of an agreement with the NASW, HelpPRO is now the search engine behind the National Social Worker Finder at their Public Education Campaign Web Site: www.HelpStartsHere.org. This Campaign, founded by the NASW Foundation, is focused on educating consumers about the role social workers can play in their lives. The National Social Worker Finder is an important part of this effort.

An Invitation to Social Workers
To support the creation of a single, nationwide consumer database dedicated to providing consumers a place where "Help Starts Here", we invite you to list your practice. The listing process is both robust and simple at the same time. As you begin you are asked to set up a registration using your email address and a password of your choosing. This ensures the information on your practice can only be updated by you. You are then walked through a series of screens which contain pull down menus and easy to fill in information blocks. The basic listing allows you to convey what you offer to potential clients. Should you wish to portray your practice in a more personalized format, a customized profile page can be added to your listing for an additional fee. Send email to Lisa@helppro.com or call 1-800-652-0155 to request more information about a customized profile page.

HelpNet Team

William L. Blout — President
Mr. Blout worked for over 25 years in mental health administration and clinical private practice before founding HelpNet in 1995. His strengths are his passion, vision, and ability to "bring the right people together to do the job."

Early in his career, Mr. Blout received clinical training at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, but his affinity for community mental health began in Watertown, Massachusetts, where he worked with high-risk groups of teens to develop youth programs during the early 1970's. Mr. Blout worked in community development for three years through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Departments of Mental Health and Public Health, before embarking on a career in clinical social work. After an internship in the Cambridge Court, he worked for three years as a social worker in the Arlington schools. For the next 16 years, he served as the Executive Director of RePlace, Inc., an adolescent and family counseling center in Lexington. The centerpiece service of RePlace was an information and referral hotline for teens and families.

It was the frustration he encountered trying to find resources using inadequate filing systems and outdated directories that led to his vision for HelpNet, Inc.

John S. O'Hara — Director of Technical Development
Mr. O'Hara has previously architected web sites whose content and target market range from human services to aviation analysis statistics. He performed all phases of the HelpPRO.com service development, including goal definition, requirements analysis, and planning implementation strategy. Mr. O'Hara has led large projects building financial systems and regulatory tracking systems, and networked real-time inventory systems for Fortune 500 corporations. He has managed the critical business and technical aspects of client/customer relationships.

Mr. O'Hara has worked with Chase Econometrics, Interactive Data Corporation, Sunguard International, as well as Citibank, Genetics Institute, and the U.S.Department of Transportation. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College and his Masters from Dartmouth College.

Lisa M. Guglietta — Director of Operations
Ms. Guglietta brings experience in both business administration and human services to HelpNet. Her unique talent to manage multiple projects, provide superior customer service, and maintain a positive, empathic style is a great asset.

Her past work experience includes managing a company which specialized in financial, insurance and estate planning for clients who had disabled children, and managing the Information & Referral Department of an elder services agency. She has worked in mental health counseling with dually diagnosed clients and in behavioral rehabilitation with severely head and brain injured adults.

Ms. Guglietta received her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in business studies from Providence College, and her Master of Arts in counseling from Framingham State College.

Joseph H. Nudi III — Information Technology Manager

Jeanne Blauner — Director of Business Development
Ms. Blauner is a highly regarded business professional with over 22 years experience specializing in business, strategic, and new product and service development. She has over 16 years expertise in classic consumer packaged goods and over six years on her own successfully running and managing J A Blauner & Company.

Ms. Blauner has secured millions of dollars of new business for large corporations as well as smaller, more entrepreneurial clients. Her particular strength is opening new markets and developing appropriate products and services for these markets using creative problem solving techniques.

Ms. Blauner received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College and her Master of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School.

Christine Fox Pratt — Marketing Communications

William J. TenHoor — Business and Marketing Consultant
Mr. TenHoor has been developing businesses, markets, products, governmental programs, and public policy initiatives for over 25 years. A writer and speaker, as well as a consultant and social enterprise developer, he has secured millions of capital and project dollars for his clients.

Mr. TenHoor developed the Nation's first mental health policy electronic bulletin board and was a key partner in the formation and development of Green Spring Health Services, now Magellan, the nation's largest behavioral health care company. As a corporate officer for sales and marketing, Mr. TenHoor grew company revenues from $3M in 1990 to over $200M in 1995.

Prior to entering the private sector, Mr. TenHoor served in management and executive positions during a 12-year career in the Federal Government, including a four-year period as the senior policy manager for mental health, aging, and human development for three successive Secretaries of HHS.
