Since 1987, I have also been a student and practitioner of mindfulness meditation, and have served in various capacities at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. I'm currently a faculty and board member at the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. My work as a therapist grows out of a wish to use the tools of mindfulness and psychotherapy to help people discover the essential truths within themselves, and in the process, to live with greater ease and freedom. I live in Arlington with my wife, who is also a clinical social worker, and our cat Spike. Professional Philosophy My treatment approach is tailored to each individual, couple or group. I draw primarily from my training as a psychodynamic and mindfulness-based clinician, using both traditions to help clients bring more awareness and acceptance to their conscious and subconscious experience, including physical sensations, moods, feelings, thoughts, inner conflicts and outer behavior patterns. This kind of awareness and acceptance, in my view, facilitates healing and growth. I have also been deeply influenced by cognitive/behavioral, psychoanalytic, relational, and family systems perspectives, and utilize these approaches as needed. Most important, I believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative effort and so I work together with clients to help them identify and ask for what they need both in the therapeutic relationship and in their lives.
