HELPING PEOPLE FIND HELPING PEOPLE
HelpPRO
®, the original therapist finder, provides the public with free access to a searchable database of social workers,
psychologists, marriage and family counselors and other mental health professionals, countrywide. Individuals connect with
therapists who best meet their needs for traditional, in-office counseling as well as telehealth and online options including
phone, videoconference, email and text messaging. The service is free for those seeking a mental health professional or support group.
Users can search for therapists by location (city, state, zip code), specialties (e.g., depression, anxiety, couples and relationship
issues, bipolar disorders, addictions/substance abuse, PTSD, trauma), payment options (e.g., health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare,
sliding scale), accessibility/availability (e.g., evening office hours, home visits, online therapy, phone counseling, weekend hours),
qualifications (e.g., license, certification in DBT, EMDR, ACT, AASECT), languages spoken, age groups and populations served (e.g.,
LBGTQ, ACOA, AIDS/HIV, Cancer, MS, Alzheimer’s, Military, First Responders).
Providers pay a nominal annual fee to be registered, at a rate considerably lower than most other online therapist finders. Providers
include clinical social workers, licensed mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, neuropsychologists, psychiatric
nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, and substance abuse and addiction counselors.
HelpPRO partners with 25 organizations including the Autism Society, National Association of Social Workers, Suicide Prevention Lifeline,
and the MS Society, which regularly refer clients. HelpPRO is based in Lexington, Mass., and is the original online therapist finder,
having been founded by William Blout in March 1995.
